Which Lash Style Actually Suits Your Eyes?

The photo you saved is somebody else’s eye.

That’s not a criticism, it’s just the reason so many people end up with a set that looked incredible on Instagram and slightly wrong on them. Lash extensions aren’t a product you pick off a shelf. They’re a shape drawn onto your specific face, and the same map produces very different results on a hooded eye than on a round one.

So we map before we start. Every service, every client, included at no charge.

What lash mapping is

Mapping is deciding, before a single extension goes on, where each length goes across the lash line. Short at the inner corner, longest at some point along the eye, tapering out — but where that longest point sits is the entire decision. Move it two millimeters and you’ve changed the shape of someone’s eye.

We work it out from your eye shape, your brow position, your natural lash density, and where your lashes are strongest.

The main styles, and who they work on

Doll eye — longest in the center of the lash line.

Opens and rounds the eye. Best on almond and long, narrow eyes. Avoid on already-round eyes; it can make them look surprised.

Cat eye — length building toward the outer corner.

Elongates and lifts, creates a winged effect without liner. Great on round and close-set eyes. Be careful on downturned eyes — a heavy outer corner can drag them further down.

Kitten — a softer cat eye, longest point just past center.

The most universally flattering map. If you don’t know what you want, this is usually where we start.

Open eye / squirrel — length peaking slightly past center, then a controlled drop.

Lifts hooded eyes. This is the map that works when a hooded lid is swallowing your extensions.

Wispy / textured — alternating lengths in a spiked pattern.

Softer, more “your lashes but better,” less uniform. Reads natural on camera. Works on most eye shapes.

Natural — following your own lash line, 2–3mm added.

For anyone who wants to look rested rather than made up. The most common request from clients who work in conservative offices.

The part nobody talks about: eye shape

Hooded — the lid covers part of the mobile lid. Extensions that are too long hit the lid and get pushed down or crimped. You need lift, not length: a shorter length with a stronger curl (D or CC) beats a longer, flatter one.

Round — a cat eye elongates. A doll eye will exaggerate the roundness.

Almond — nearly everything works. Enjoy it.

Downturned — the outer corner sits lower than the inner. Length at the outer corner emphasizes the droop; length in the center-outer third lifts it.

Close-set — more length toward the outer third creates width between the eyes.

Wide-set — more length toward the inner-center pulls them visually together.

Deep-set — a strong curl keeps the lashes visible instead of disappearing under the brow bone.

Curl and thickness, quickly

Curl: J and B are subtle. C is the workhorse. D and CC are dramatic and are what hooded eyes usually need. L and M curls lift a very straight, downward-growing lash — common on many clients and often misdiagnosed as “extensions don’t work on me.”

Thickness: this is a safety decision, not a style one. Your natural lash can only carry so much weight. A 0.15mm classic extension on a fine lash will fall out early and take the natural lash with it. If you want density on fine lashes, the answer is volume — several ultra-fine 0.03–0.07mm extensions fanned onto one lash — not one thick one. It looks fuller and weighs less.

Anyone who doesn’t check your natural lash weight before choosing thickness isn’t mapping. They’re guessing.

What to bring

Two or three saved photos. That’s genuinely the best input you can give us. We’ll tell you which parts will translate to your eye and which won’t, and what the realistic version looks like.

Book a consultation

The mapping consultation is included with every service — you don’t book it separately, and you’re never charged for it. If you’re still deciding whether extensions are right for you at all, message us on Instagram with a photo of your eyes open, straight on, no makeup, and we’ll tell you honestly what would work.
