Classic vs volume lash extensions
1D $120 · 2D–3D $150 · 4D–5D $170 · 6D+ $180
The short answer
What the difference actually is.
Classic lash extensions place one extension on one natural lash, which adds length and definition but cannot fill a gap. Volume places a handmade fan of four to five ultra-fine extensions on each lash, which fills the line and reads much darker. At DEEPINLASH, 1019 Avenue P in Brooklyn 11223, classic is $120 and volume is $170. The counter-intuitive part: volume is often the lighter option on fine lashes, because five extensions at 0.05mm weigh less than one at 0.15mm.
First, the thing everyone gets wrong
The number is density, not quality.
1D to 6D+ is not a ladder from basic to premium. It is how many extensions are fanned onto each natural lash, and the right answer depends on your lash line, not your budget. A heavier set on a fine lash line does not look fuller — it looks stressed, and it sheds early.
The second thing everyone gets wrong follows from the first: more lashes does not mean more weight. Weight comes from diameter. A classic extension is typically 0.12mm to 0.15mm. A volume fan is built from 0.05mm to 0.07mm extensions, and a mega fan from 0.03mm to 0.05mm. That is why five fine lashes can sit on a natural lash that could not carry one thick one, and why volume is frequently the correct choice for someone with delicate lashes who was told to "stick to classic".

How to decide
Pick by the problem, not the price.
Find the sentence that sounds like you.
Still undecided after all that? Book classic. Mapping happens before anything is applied, we will tell you at the chair what your lash line can carry, and you can move up before we start. You are only charged for the set you leave with — so the cheap option is never the wrong booking.
The honest cost comparison
What a year actually costs.
Lashes are a subscription, not a purchase. Refills every two to three weeks is roughly 20 appointments a year, so the gap between tiers compounds — and that is the number worth deciding on, not the full-set price.
- Classic. $120 set, then about 19 refills at $100 — roughly $2,020 a year.
- Mix 2D–3D. $150 set, then about 19 refills at $130 — roughly $2,620 a year.
- Volume. $170 set, then about 19 refills at $140 — roughly $2,830 a year.
- Mega volume. $180 set, then about 19 refills at $150, usually at two-week intervals rather than three — roughly $3,030 and often more.
Those are honest estimates at a three-week rhythm, not a quote. Fewer appointments, lower total — and a tier that suits your lashes stretches to three weeks more easily than one that does not.

Questions
Classic, mix, volume, mega.
What is the difference between classic and volume lash extensions?
Classic places one extension on one natural lash, which adds length and definition but cannot cover a gap. Volume places a handmade fan of four to five ultra-fine extensions on each lash, which fills the line and reads much darker. Classic is $120 and volume is $170. Both take 90 minutes and both need refilling every two to three weeks.
Are volume lashes heavier on natural lashes than classic?
Usually not. Weight comes from diameter rather than from the number of lashes in a fan. Classic extensions are typically 0.12mm to 0.15mm; volume fans are built from 0.05mm to 0.07mm. Five extensions at 0.05mm weigh less than one at 0.15mm, which is why volume is often the better technical choice on fine lashes.
Is classic or volume better for a first-time lash client?
Classic, in most cases — it is the lightest set, the easiest to live with and the cheapest way to find out whether extensions suit you. The exception is a very fine or sparse lash line, where a 2D–3D mix or volume distributes weight better. Mapping at the start of the appointment settles it either way, and you are only charged for the set you leave with.
What is a 2D–3D mix lash set?
No. The 2D–3D mix places single classic extensions with small fans of two or three along the same lash line. The singles hold the shape and the fans fill the spaces between them, which is something classic cannot do. It is $150 and it is the most-booked set here, because most lash lines are uneven rather than uniformly full.
Can you get a cat eye or wispy look with classic lashes?
Yes. Cat eye, doll eye, kitten and wispy are mapping styles — decisions about where length goes — and they are available at any density tier. Wispy and spiked looks read strongest on a 2D–3D or volume base because alternating fan sizes creates the texture, but the shape itself is independent of the tier.
Which lash tier lasts longest between refills?
They all shed at the same rate, because retention is governed by your natural lash cycle rather than by density. What differs is how visible the loss is: on classic, a few missing lashes barely register, while on mega volume the same loss is obvious. So classic feels like it lasts longer, and mega volume clients usually refill at two weeks rather than three.
Should I move up a lash tier or add length?
If you want it to look fuller, move up a tier. If you want it to look longer, add length — but only as far as the natural lash can carry, which is typically no more than three to four millimetres beyond its own length. Adding length beyond that is the most common cause of stressed lashes, and it is the request we turn down most often.
What does 0.07 or 0.15 mean on a lash extension?
It is the diameter of the fibre in millimetres, and it is the number that actually decides weight. Classic extensions run around 0.12mm to 0.15mm because one of them has to carry the whole effect. Volume fans are built from 0.05mm to 0.07mm, and mega volume fans from 0.03mm to 0.05mm, which is why six fine lashes can weigh less than one thick one. When someone tells you volume is heavier than classic, they are counting lashes instead of measuring them.
